- As part of a study to understand the feeding ecology of bonnethead sharks (Sphyrna tiburo) in the northern Gulf of Mexico, gillnets were deployed in 2010-2012 at locations near Dauphin Island, Alabama, where bonnetheads are known to forage. All captured elasmobranchs and teleosts were enumerated and identified to species. For bonnetheads, morphometrics were taken and weight (kg) and sex (maturity level notes for males) were recorded. Other species were measured, weighed, and sexed if time permitted.

- For each cruise, a 100 m gillnet composed of monofilament with 15-cm stretch mesh was set in a location where bonnethead sharks are frequently captured and known to forage. Environmental parameters (temperature, salinity, depth, and dissolved oxygen) were recorded using a YSI-85. Gillnets were checked every 10 minutes for freshly caught specimens.
For each bonnethead caught, morphometrics were taken (pre-caudal, fork, natural, and stretch total lengths in mm), and weight (kg) and sex were recorded. Maturity in males was assessed based on external morphology following Clark and von Schmidt (1965). Other species were measured, weighed, and sexed if time permitted.
